Capability Overview
Detection technology is the foundation of modern transport networks. From traffic signals and intersections to intelligent transport systems (ITS), accurate detection enables infrastructure to respond in real time to the movement of vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users.
CSL has been delivering advanced detection solutions since 2008, helping transport authorities improve safety, optimise traffic flow, and gain deeper insights into how their networks operate.
While traditional traffic detection has relied on in-road loop cables, advances in sensing technology now provide more accurate, flexible, and cost-effective alternatives. CSL designs, installs, integrates, and maintains a range of detection technologies to suit different operational requirements and environments.

Products & Technologies
Seyond LiDAR
Seyond represents the next generation of transport detection technology. Using LiDAR (light detection and ranging), Seyond sensors generate millions of data points every second (called a ‘point cloud’) to create highly accurate 3D models of the surrounding environment. Rather than detecting a single point, the technology can classify, track, and monitor objects dynamically as they move through the network. Vehicles, trucks, cyclists, pedestrians, and other road users can be identified and tracked in real time, providing significantly greater visibility than traditional radar or loop detection systems. A single sensor can detect activity at the stop line and up to 200metres upstream, enabling advanced queue detection, intersection optimisation, adaptive traffic management, and future AI-driven applications. CSL is currently deploying and installing Seyond technology across New Zealand, helping transport authorities explore the future of intelligent detection and real-time network management.
FLIR Thermal Detection
FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) uses thermal imaging technology to detect vehicles and pedestrians based on heat signatures rather than visible light. Particularly effective in low-light conditions, tunnels, shared spaces, and challenging weather environments, FLIR enables reliable detection without the need for invasive civil works or pavement cutting. Widely deployed across New Zealand, FLIR solutions provide a proven and cost-effective option for pedestrian crossings, signalised intersections, and shared urban environments.
AGD Radar and Camera Detection
AGD technology provides accurate vehicle and pedestrian detection, speed measurement, classification, and movement tracking. Used extensively across traffic signal and ITS applications, AGD systems deliver valuable transport data including vehicle size, speed, direction, and occupancy information. This supports both operational traffic management and longer-term planning decisions. AGD offers a robust and cost-effective solution for stop-line detection, pedestrian occupancy detection, highway monitoring, and traffic data collection and is the largest provider in the UK in this category.
